What Is EDTA?
I am going to share with you an effective way I have used EDTA (EthyleneDiamineTetraaceticAcid) to support removing Heavy Metals and other Bodily Contaminants.
EDTA is another controversial alternative therapy in the mainstream medical literature. In the article link below, the FDA states that there are no authorized OTC (over the counter) uses of EDTA. So, be careful and use at your own risk.
We have several video courses on EDTA with my personal and clinical experiences, doses and protocols I have been using over the past 20 years (see recommended EDTA video courses below). I show several ways I have learned to administer EDTA including Topically, Orally, Rectally and Intravenously.
I have been experimenting with the chelator EDTA both personally and in my practice since in the mid 1990’s. I have used many times, all of these methods of administration of EDTA.
EDTA can be bought over the counter (OTC) but I have found that the administration must be used with caution and always in low dosages for physicians, or anyone wanting to experiment with this or any other therapeutic protocols for removal of heavy metals and other forms of contaminants and detoxification.
This Earther Academy private course is to show how I have used the EDTA protocols in my practice and personally with excellent results with little or no side effects when used in low dosages and treatments.
What Is EDTA?
Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a synthetic amino acid and is a powerful chelating agent. EDTA is capable of forming tight bonds with a variety of toxic heavy metals and had been researched and studied for dissolving calcium oxalate crystals wherein the body could dispose more easily through the urine or sweat.
EDTA has a long history since the first patent in Germany in 1935. If you are interested in learning about the History of EDTA take a look here: History of EDTA Chelation Therapy – ACAM Chelation Workshop
What Is Calcium Disodium (EDTA) Used For?
Calcium disodium EDTA is found in food, personal care products, cosmetic and industrial productions. EDTA is also used for chelation therapy of heavy metals and toxins.
“Calcium Disodium – EDTA is also used to help preserve food; and to promote the color, texture, flavor of food and drink products. In manufacturing, EDTA is used to improve stability of some pharmaceutical products, detergents, liquid soaps, shampoos, agricultural chemical sprays, contact lens cleaners and cosmetics.”
EDTA is also used to support stability and increase the shelf life of many types of foods.
The following are common foods and products that contain calcium disodium EDTA:
- Salad dressings, sauces and spreads
- Cleaning uses
- EDTA binds with metal ions, prevents metals from accumulating on the skin, scalp or hair
- Soaps, shampoos, lotions and contact lens solutions.
- Mayonnaise
- Pickled vegetables, such as cabbage, peppers and cucumbers
- Canned beans and legumes
- Canned carbonated soft drinks
- Distilled alcoholic beverages
- Canned crab, clam and shrimp
- Industrial products such as paper and textiles
- Cosmetics, laundry detergents and cleaning products

Can EDTA Be Used In Medicine?
Calcium disodium EDTA chelation removes heavy metals and minerals from the blood, such as lead, iron, copper, and calcium, and is approved by the FDA for use in treating lead poisoning and toxicity from other heavy metals.

How Does EDTA Work?
EDTA is a chemical salt compound that binds and holds on to (chelates) minerals and metals such as chromium, iron, lead, mercury, copper, aluminum, nickel, zinc, calcium, cobalt, manganese, and magnesium.
EDTA has also been studied for many years successfully by many clinicians for support of removal of Calcium Oxalate crystals effectively.
EDTA has been shown to reduce plaque caused by heavy metals and calcium oxalate formation.
Various Ways To Administer And Use EDTA
EDTA Chelation therapy is known to be safe in very small doses and is effective in various forms of administration such as Topically, Orally, IV, Rectal Suppository or Enema.
Topical Administration
EDTA can also be used topically or transdermally effectively. Rubbing an EDTA ointment thoroughly into the skin is another way I have used EDTA either on localized areas or rubbed thoroughly into the arms or thorax.
“Soaking the Hands and Feet with EDTA” as well as “EDTA Skin Cream For Heavy Metal Detoxification” are excellent therapies for revitalizing some of the necessary blood flow and detoxification of the extremities.
Oral Administration
Taking EDTA orally for some people can be turbulent on the intestines with acute diarrhea and cramping, sometimes lasting for several hours. Diarrhea and mild to moderate stomach pain/ache or turbulence are the most common side effects, usually felt within the 45-90 minutes after ingesting a small dose of 1250 mg capsule or approx. ¼ tsp.
I have used the oral method of administration with excellent detoxification results. The oral method of administration I feel is more aggressive on the bowels. Most common complaint is mild to moderate intestinal bloating, gas, upset stomach, diarrhea and mild nausea.
IV Administration
EDTA can be administered by a licensed physician usually performed by using a needle or IV intravenous slow drip injection.
I don’t really like IV therapies because it is expensive and very time consuming to go to a doctor’s office that is familiar with these types of EDTA IV Treatment Protocols. The IV treatment time is usually around 45-90 minutes for each session.
I have seen a range of costs from $125.00 – $300.00 per treatment. The IV EDTA treatments will usually be in a block of 5-20 chelation treatments in the doctor’s office.
I personally do not like getting stabbed with needles in my arms from the several treatments I would need. The IV treatments for me are usually uncomfortable and time consuming as well.
I have to make sure I don’t move my arm that the needle is in. Sometimes the IV aches in my arm and shoulder region after about 30-45 minutes of dribbling the EDTA into my veins.
My veins are very sensitive to getting needled over and over again. Personally, I choose to use either the oral, rectal or topical forms of EDTA administration.
I feel the enema and topical protocols are much easier on the body than the oral or IV styles of administration with less side effects, less intestinal discomfort and much more economical – less time and money spent too.
EDTA – Rectal Suppositories
Can be bought over the counter in the USA, and are used as a heavy metal detoxification compound.
Suppositories are quite expensive to purchase and I feel the low dose enema bag recipe is a more effective, safe and economical way to administer the EDTA rectally with the use of a 100% silicone enema bag or enema device.
Personally, I really do not like the suppositories because they irritate my colon if I use them like the directions say.
I have used the EDTA suppositories many times but they always seemed to give my colon some inflammation, irritation and swelling. So, I don’t like to use the suppositories only because I feel the EDTA is not being dispersed in a larger area like the liquid EDTA enema does.
I feel the distribution of EDTA in the suppository is too localized in the colon. and for some people this causes more inflammation or swelling.
I think some of the irritation and inflammation from the suppositories may be because the EDTA suppository is inserted in the rectum and then the EDTA starts to be absorbed in the one area of the colon. Most peoples colon are inflamed somewhat from diet leading to overall digestive problems.
The EDTA suppository enters through the colon with the size and shape of a small finger shaped in the form of a hardened suppository.
After entering the colon, the EDTA is slowly being dispersed into the colon to be absorbed in a small area of the colon, thus possibly irritating the disbursement area of the large intestines where the EDTA is being absorbed. This is my opinion based on me using them for several months and getting colon inflammation from the suppositories.
EDTA Enema
Using a Non Toxic Enema Bag with a combination of water mixed with EDTA has the ability to enter much deeper into the colon, thus spreading out the dose over a larger area of the colon for better absorption and less irritation to the intestines.
Again, I feel the suppositories are not spreading the EDTA out effectively to a large enough surface area, as the enema protocols do. The suppository may cause some colon irritation and inflammation over time for some individuals.

The colon is an excellent way to transport many compounds into the body via the intestines.
Support Dissolving Oxalate Crystals With EDTA
Oxalate Crystals have been shown to accumulate in the Joints, Organs, Muscles, Lymphatics, Arteries, Veins and Capillaries causing damage wherever the crystals form and accumulate.
These very small needle like crystals can cause much inflammation and damage to any part of the body affected by the accumulation of them.
EDTA has been shown in some studies and research to reduce the size, and support dissolving oxalate crystals. EDTA therapy has also been shown in many studies to be effective for the reduction and or elimination of arterial plaque in studies.
EDTA Chelation therapy has been shown to be safe in very small doses and is effective in various forms of administration such as topically, orally, Intravenous, suppository and enema.
Chelation EDTA Therapy?
Chelation therapy is a chemical process in which a synthetic solution (EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid)) is injected into the bloodstream to remove a variety of heavy metals and/or some minerals from the body. Chelation means “to grab” or “to bind”. When EDTA is injected into the veins, it “grabs” heavy metals and minerals such as lead, mercury, copper, iron, arsenic, aluminum, and calcium and removes them from the body. EDTA was first used in the 1950’s for the treatment of heavy metal poisoning.
FDA has approved this treatment only for lead poisoning. Chelation therapy is controversial and unproved. British Columbia – Health link B
The half life of EDTA in the body can be up to eight hours and is mostly excreted through the kidneys and bowels within 24 hours.
Do you believe chelation therapy would be an effective treatment for Atherosclerosis?
“Injected EDTA binds with the harmful metal and both are then eliminated from the body through the kidneys. Some health professionals have also used chelation therapy to treat atherosclerosis and/or coronary artery disease , although there is not enough scientific evidence to prove that this treatment is effective.”

How Does EDTA Remove Heavy Metals?
“When EDTA is injected into the veins, it “grabs” heavy metals and minerals such as lead, mercury, copper, iron, arsenic, aluminum, and calcium and removes them from the body. Except as a treatment for lead poisoning, chelation therapy is controversial and unproved.”
EDTA And Cardiovascular Disease
Side Effects Of EDTA:
These are some of the major symptoms I personally had when I was taking EDTA for advanced detoxification. EDTA is a potent chelator of many reactive Heavy Metals, Chemicals, Oxalate Crystals, some Minerals and supports releasing other toxins in the body waiting to be excreted.
If I have any of these symptoms below while using the EDTA, I will not take another dose until I am feeling mentally, emotionally and physically stable again.
- Depression
- Diarrhea
- Insomnia
- Flu Like Symptoms
- Headache
- Foggy Mind
- Tired
- Sore Joints
- Nausea
Other side effects that have been reported in patients taking some forms of EDTA have included:
- Anemia
- Chills, fever, or headache
- Blood clot in a vein
- Lower levels of magnesium and potassium in the blood
- Diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea
- Fatigue
- Abnormal calcium levels in the blood
- Insulin shock

Is EDTA FDA Approved?
Edetate calcium disodium was first approved in 1953. It is available by prescription and is approved for the treatment of lead poisoning. Currently, there are no oral formulations of calcium disodium EDTA that are FDA approved – src: Current Use of Chelation in American Health Care
Are There Any OTC Chelation Products Approved By The FDA?
“No. FDA has never approved any chelation product for OTC use for any health condition. All FDA-approved chelation products require a prescription because they can only be used safely under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner – src: https://www.fda.gov/drugs/medication-health-fraud/questions-and-answers-unapproved-chelation-products
The Big Question: Why has the FDA come down hard on chelation therapy?
So, I googled it.
Depending on where you read the EDTA literature, you will hear a lot of controversy when it comes to the subject of EDTA.
Do your own homework and then you be able to make some of the choices by the information you gather.
History Of EDTA
Many studies also have shown EDTA therapy is effective for the need of very costly bypass surgery, many other types of cardiovascular – statins and other prescription drugs.
“Bypass surgery and drug treatmeny of the conditions which chelation so often effectively deals with are very big business indeed. In the USA alone, $4 billion is the current turnover per annum of the bypass industry. A lesser, but nevertheless enormous, sum is involved in medication for conditions which the relatively cheap (and now out of patent) substance EDTA can be shown to help.
Such vested interests should not be underestimated when it comes to the lengths to which they will go to try to discredit methods which threaten their stranglehold on the ‘market’ Chelation therapy continues to grow, however, as public awareness and knowledge increases of this safe alternative to surgery and drugs, many of which are of questionable safety and value.”

WARNING:
I recommend to always seek the advice and supervision of a licenced health professional before using any type of detoxification practices. Also, it is always a good idea to learn how to do your own investigation via the internet research papers and other people that have used these practices.
I have found that EDTA can be very intestinal disruptive with even low doses. I always recommend everyone to do their own research and/or seek expert medical advice before using EDTA and/or any other therapies that you are not familiar with.
