I feel guilty being a forum hog, presenting ideas before responses – however, I was sharing a conversation with a good friend about use of cell phones and how we communicate today.

I work in technology, stare at computers most of the day and I also interact with people. The most complex problems with computers are solved by face to face interactions with the people that are using them. I’ve learned I must find the mistake, and not the problem.

Myself, others – and many others, lol, are all well familiar with text messaging. SOME of us may hold multiple conversations at the same time while sharing time with other people in person. It’s like playing video games, day dreaming, etc…

I think this is okay on a certain “mutual” level – if it’s like reading a magazine or a book and a means of correspondence. REAL communication, however, is most effective with “one on one” undivided attention with respect made for the appointment of time. When I receive a support request in a professional environment through email, I travel to the person’s location (even if it’s down the hall) so I can experience their concern with them and pay respect to the reason they reached out to me. Team-work makes the dream work and it really helps people to know they have advocates for their cause.

This is just a rant, and I wonder what value others develop by providing undivided attention to everything they do throughout their day?
