Transitioning over to a balanced, species appropriate diet along with pet friendly superfoods is a good start. Fleas and ticks don’t like dogs or cats or even humans who smell good. Deluted Apple Cider Vinegar rinse works well too. Also a few dabs of peppermint oil on their fur is a great deterrent. Plus, they’ll smell awesome!

I have tried mixing Diatomaceous earth, sodium tetraborat (borax) and a few drops of mint on my dog but I have to keep checking to make sure they just don’t move to different parts of the body.
How did the Diatomaceous Earth work out for you because I was thinking about getting some.
